Common Questions About Your Sailing Experience
Find answers to the most common queries about our sailing trips, booking process, and onboard experience.
What can I expect during a mile builder?
Our mile builder trips are designed to maximise distance. Depending on the duration, we would expect to achieve between 120 and 350 miles on a trip. There will be the potential for night sailing and if you are after skippering experience, you may be able to passage plan and ‘skipper’ part of the trip. This will be under the guidance of our professional Skipper at all times and as always, is weather dependent.
- Food and fuel is included, as are mooring fees
- All safety equipment is provided, but foul weather gear is not
What should I bring on a sailing trip?
We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, comfortable clothing, and any personal items you may need. We provide all safety equipment and essentials on board.
However, a full kit list is emailed out well in advance of your trip.
Please do consider bringing wet weather gear – Sailing Zara does not provide foul weather clothing.
How do I book a trip with Sailing Zara?
Booking is easy! Simply choose your preferred dates on our website, select your group size, and complete the booking form and payment. You will receive email confirmation shortly after completion, coupled with links to our onboarding form.
Are meals included in the trip?
Yes, all of our trips include freshly prepared meals. Our onboard galley is fully equipped and you can expect 3 meals per day.
- If you have snacks that you particularly like, please make sure you bring some of these with you
Is there a minimum age requirement for guests?
We welcome guests of all ages. However, for safety reasons, children must be supervised by an adult that has parently responsibility at all times during the trip.
We do not provide life jackets for children. These can be bought reasonably cheapy from any chandlery. These must have a crotch strap.
Can I skipper one of the passages?
Most requests to skipper come from those who are working towards a Yachtmaster qualification. Due to the minimum manning requirements of this MCA coded commercial vessel, a commercially endorsed skipper (YMO) must be ultimately in charge. However, you can absolutely help passage plan and ‘skipper’ the vessel. Given that many passages will be over 60 miles, this gives you the opportunity to log those longer trips required for your next sailing achievement.
Can I drink alcohol onboard?
Absolutely! Who doesn’t love a cold beer or gin and tonic on a sunny evening while enjoying the view from the anchorage? We have plenty of ice cubes in the freezer 😀
However, before and while sailing, we have a zero tolerance for alcohol consumption. The risk of an incident is too high given the unpredictable nature of sailing.
